– by Piper Jackson

The Glengarry Soccer League proudly kicked off its 101st season this past week, marking another exciting chapter in local youth sports. This year, the Vankleek Hill Sports Club (VKHSC) is fielding 24 minor teams across age groups from U8 to U18, along with two Division 1 women’s teams and a women’s masters division team. The club also operates a U6 developmental program focused on skill-building, which remains local and does not travel for games.

VKHSC is thrilled to announce that Theoret Martel Insurance has come on board as the club’s official sponsor for the season. With a proud tradition of supporting youth athletics since the 1980s, Theoret Martel’s commitment to the community continues strong. Players will proudly wear jerseys featuring the company’s logo throughout the season.

Strong Start for Vankleek Hill U18 Girls

The Vankleek Hill U18 Girls soccer team opened their season with an impressive 3–1 win over the Char-Lan U18 Girls last Wednesday in Char-Lan. Victoria Nevers led the offensive charge, scoring two goals, while Reagan Hall added another to round out the scoring. Goalkeeper Anna Wyman delivered a solid performance between the posts, helping to secure the victory. Coached by Randi Tolhurst, the team showed strong coordination and determination, setting a promising tone for the rest of the season.

Looking ahead, Vankleek Hill will host Laggan/Glensandfield this Wednesday at VCI in what promises to be a highly anticipated rematch of last year’s championship game—an intense battle that saw Vankleek Hill emerge as champions. With both teams eager to prove themselves early in the season, this matchup is sure to be one to watch in the U18 Girls division.
